DFN (German Research Network)
What does Deutsches Forschungsnetz e.V. mean?>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
The DFN (Deutsches Forschungsnetz e.V.) is a self-governing information and communication network that connects universities, research institutions and research-related companies. Responsibility is borne by the Verein zur Förderung des Deutschen Forschungsnetzes (Association for the Promotion of the German Research Network), which was founded in 1984. The name of the underlying technical platform is X-WIN.
What are the advantages of the DFN for those involved?
The participating institutions benefit from a high-performance network in which they can exchange large amounts of data with each other in a short time. The connection capacity reaches up to a speed of 100 GB/s. The association achieves this primarily thanks to around 60 core network locations. For this purpose, it draws on the great power of computer centres at universities throughout Germany. The high security standards also deserve mention. The DFN (Deutsches Forschungsnetz e.V.) enables the secure exchange of sensitive and valuable data from the research sector.

All participants have access to a wide range of services provided by the association. These include:
